Projects

The current scientific focus.

3D-BONECRAFT connects molecular interfaces, material preparation and scaffold fabrication. Research spans model selection, PHA–MXene adsorption and deformation, thermal behaviour and stiffness, reactive extrusion of PHB-based formulations, filament production and scaffold printing.

Scaffold prototype produced by fused filament fabrication in 3D-BONECRAFT.

3D-BONECRAFT

Developing PHA–MXene biocomposites from molecular understanding to filament and scaffold prototypes.

How do polymer composition, MXene surface chemistry and processing shape a printable composite for bone scaffolds?

What has the project shown?

01 / Literature review

Choose the model
for the question.

Polymers can bridge MXene sheets, reorganise water and ions, and accommodate motion. The review connects these mechanisms to what different models can represent.

Main conclusions from the review
02 / Adsorption simulations

Chain architecture
shapes surface contact.

Backbone and side-chain dimensions influence how a polymer meets MXene and the interaction energy associated with adsorption.

Adsorption findings & conditions
03 / Tensile-deformation simulations

Follow structural changes
during deformation.

Molecular simulations provide a view of structural changes within polymer–MXene models during deformation.

Deformation findings & conditions
