3D-BONECRAFT investigates how polymer composition, MXene surface chemistry and processing can be combined to develop printable biocomposites for bone scaffolds. Bruno Faria coordinates the FCT-funded exploratory project at IPC, University of Minho; its funded execution period is 20 February 2025 to 19 August 2026.
The aim is to develop materials for bone scaffolds that combine suitable mechanical support, biocompatibility and biodegradability with reliable 3D printing. Adding MXene offers a way to investigate how the polymer interface can be tailored and how an electrical function might be introduced alongside the structural role of the scaffold.
The IPC project team includes Ana Vera Machado, Sacha Mould, Cidália Castro, Pedro Veiga Rodrigues and Loïc Hilliou. Their complementary expertise connects polymer formulation, characterisation, processing and materials response.
